'I Believe In Angels, I Have Seen Them'

NHS Mural Homage

On Saturday the 27th of August 2019 around 6.45 pm while I was performing my monthly show from my window I suffered a heart attack. It was towards the end of my show and at first I didn’t realise, I just felt a loss of breath and thought maybe I’d been pushing myself too hard with my singing.

About half an hour later when the adrenaline had kicked off I felt the consequences of the heart attack, it felt like someone was sitting on my chest and I just couldn’t get comfortable. With my wife’s advice I phoned 999 and within 5 minutes an ambulance came. The paramedic told me to crunch 2-3 aspirins ( this thins the blood during a heart attack and can help to avoid a person having a cardiac arrest, stopping of the heart).

By giving me a simple blood test, A&E confirmed I’d had a heart attack. 1 hour later I was in theatre and I had a stent fitted to open my blocked artery.

The whole NHS system were amazing and I thank them for saving my life.

The Sussex Heart Charity also gave me lots of support during these difficult times.

This mural and poem are a homage to them.

The poem on the mural is called‘ Peter’s Angels’ and it was wrote by Steve Barrey, it received the most votes during a competition run by The Argus Newspaper.It was one of 10 wonderful poems wrote for the NHS.

Here are all the poems;
